muriatic acid
I'm trying to remove paint from brick and it's a neverending, exausting, and overall frustrating process. A friend recommended this substance called muriatic acid, so I looked it up. Aparently it is so strong that its vapours can contaminate the metal around it, it will blind you, burn you, and seriously fuck you up.

My favourite line from a page detailing its use: "Over a period of years, gaseous seepage from the old containers had begun to dissolve the metal shelving it was stored upon, as well as the metal containers of other products nearby!" Great!

Later on that night, I had a dream. It was a little fuzzy, but the main points were that I had decided to use muriatic acid and -- oops! -- it had started to break down the structure of my building, which was in danger of collapsing. Oh wait, I just remembered. There was more to the dream. I was having a little party, which might have very well been a housewarming, and I discovered that I had an extra room in my apartment! Instead of being railroad style, it was actually U shaped. This was really exciting news, and (in my dream) I started to rethink where I had the bedroom and living room. That's when the building started swaying, because of the structural damage, of course. We all evacuated.

I have decided to search for some alternatives.

Beautiful Spot
I've temporarily got a car. I park it on the street. I've been reading a book called Tepper Isn't Going Out, which is fictional account of a guy who parks his car a lot in New York City. There is this magazine in the book -- a parking magazine -- and it's called Beautiful Spot. What a marvelous name for a parking magazine! I think I'm going to start noting the beautiful spots I find around town. Some of them have been truly magnificent.

I still remember the incredible feeling I got after finding a spot on Washington between Christopher and 10th street, next to that restaurant on the east side of the street. I was overjoyed! Those spots are always taken, and moreover, there are a bunch of No Parking signs on that block, so there are only about 4 spots in total. Then there was the spot on Washington Place, between 6th avenue and the park. I was going to park in a not-good-for-the-next-day spot, and move the car after stopping by my friend's house. After I backed up into my spot, I saw not one, but TWO perfectly legal spots directly across the street. I couldn't believe my luck! I immediately moved the car over and left it there for the next two days. All this, and next to the park, too!

Yesterday I found a beautiful spot just east of 6th avenue at 11th Street. Nice spot, easy walk home. Life is pretty good.
